A Mr & Mrs Brooks were born approx. 1530 in the village of Combe Martin, North Devon, England. The first names are not given but the Devon Muster Rolls of 1569 which listed all the able bodied men who were eligible to fight for the protection of the realm gives the name of a William Brooke.
This is the only ?Brooke? listed so a good guess could indicate that this is the right one!!
Three boys were born in Combe Martin which could possibly be 3 brothers & given the dates of birth would probably be the off spring of the Mr & Mrs Brooks | Family: F892

Only child of John and his wife Mary, as is clear from administrations of their effects granted to Daniel in 1804.
He appears to have died in 1829 aged 49 and knowledge of his profession comes from the 1861 census where Sarah Alefounder is recorded as a "Schoolmaster's Widow" and from her death certificate which describes her as "Widow of Daniel Alefounder Schoolmaster"

On his father's death, took over the business of Chemist and Druggist, as is apparent from the entry in the Register of Chemists and Druggists for 1869: the date of registration is 31 December 1868, after his father's decease on 18 October that year.
He must have been active in the profession before then however, as only those in business prior to 1 August 1868 were allowed to continue under the description of Chemist and Druggist; new entrants had to be qualified and were then known as Pharmaceutical Chemists. He is not listed in the Registers for 1870-1886, but appears again 1887-1889.
He died in 1890 and by the time of the 1891 census the premises had left the family: nos 1 & 2 Market Street had been combined into one shop and were occupied by a tinsmith's shaperman.

John Brook married Thomasine Barns on 30/3/1703. Her parents were John & Mary Barns.
*Various christening entries in the Bishop?s Transcripts for some of the children show that John?s profession was a Carpenter/Cooper. The Transcripts for the baptisms of the 2nd & 3rd children show only a month in-between the dates, un-sure why!
The records also show a Thomasine buried 25/2/1728 & a John 28/12/1730 (given as a husbandman), these could possibly have been the same parents. * | John BROOK

* The Bishops Transcripts show a William Brook married Julian Lancey 31/8/1689, with the father of William given as Charles & the father of Julian given as John = 2 children also given as Jane (ch. 24/8/1690 & Julian ch. 21/2/1696).
The dates of wedding & births don?t correspond, but all various documents can be confusing. Although Julian is a male name today, the name apparently was a female name in the Bishop?s Transcipts for this era. | Willam BROOK

William Brooks married Jenny on 10/8/1603, Jennie was born approx. 1592 which the marriage date would only make her as being 11yrs old & William being 15yrs old. There is another document which states the marriage at 1606, this indicates Jennie as being approx. 14yrs old and more realistic.
The dates aren?t always too accurate & do contradict from document to document so Jennie could well have been older, but they do appear to have married quite young! In these times children could get married with consent, girls at 12yrs & boys at 14yrs of age. | William BROOKS
